Tooth Extraction
WHAT IS IT ?
Tooth extraction is the removal of teeth from the tooth socket present in the alveolar bone.
REASONS :
It is done when the teeth have been damaged beyond repair in cases like
- Trauma or decay.
- Gum disease.
- In R Dental Care we assess the teeth and an X-ray is required to check whether the tooth can be saved or not.
- If the teeth is going to extracted, we ask for the patient medical and dental history.
- If everything is good, we administer local anesthesia for painless procedure.

REASONS :
- Medications are prescribed.
- Gauze/cotton is placed in the extracted tooth socket to reduce bleeding and clot formation and the gauze is to be placed for an hour after extraction and do not disturb it.
- Apply ice pack to that area.
- Take rest for the next 24-48 hours.
- Avoid brushing in that area and avoid rinsing or spiting for the next 24 hours.
- Do not drink using straw for the first 24 hours.
- Do not smoke after extraction, which may interrupt healing process.
- After extraction of tooth, it may take 3 to 4 weeks in a healthy person and more in a medically compromised person.
- Complete healing of bone and remodeling will take from 3 to 6 months.
- Wisdom teeth are third and final set of molars that erupt between the ages of 17 and 25.
- Sometimes the third molar may not erupt completely, so the teeth is either partially erupted or completely submerged in the bone (impacted) or misaligned.
- This causes food accumulation, bad odor from the mouth, causes decay and damage to adjacent teeth.
- In order to eliminate this, the third molars are extracted in most cases.
